FSGI Recorded 30 Bullying Cases Occurring In Schools During 2023

JAKARTA - The Federation of Indonesian Teachers' Unions (FSGI) released a year-end record (Catahu) of education throughout 2023 regarding an increase in cases of violence in the form of bullying in education units.

FSGI also noted that the change in PPKn subjects to Pancasila Education (PP) could not be implemented completely, including the absence of a PP book printed even though the selling price unit had been set by the government.

One by one, the year-end notes in the field of education will be described as follows:

FSGI noted that cases of bullying in education units throughout 2023 reached 30 cases of bullying, of which 80% occurred in educational units under the authority of the Ministry of Education and Culture and 20% of cases of bullying occurred in educational units under the Ministry of Religion. The 30 cases are cases that have been reported to the authorities and processed. This number increased because in the 2022 FSGI record there were 21 cases of bullying, or there was an increase of 9 cases.

Of the 30 cases, 50% occurred at the junior high/equivalent level; 30% occurred at the elementary/equivalent level; 10% at the high school/equivalent level and 10% at the vocational/equivalent level. The junior high school level has the most bullying, both for students to peers, and for educators.

Of the 30 cases of bullying, it has claimed lives, one elementary school student in Sukabumi Regency and 1 female MTs in Blitar (East Java), both died after experiencing violence from peers. Everything happened in the educational unit environment. There were also students who were burned by their peers while sleeping, resulting in serious burns. In addition, there was also 1 case of bullying at the elementary school, which is suspected to be one of the triggers for suicide victims, even though the cause of suicide was never single.

Of the 30 cases, it was recorded that there was violent discipline by teachers related to violations of school rules related to signs. There are teachers in Lamongan who cut the hair of 14 students because they did not wear ciput until they were crowded in front. There are teachers in Samosir (North Sumatra) cutting students' hair only with side hair so that children feel humiliated or experience psychological violence.

The incident areas include 12 provinces that include locuss in 24 regencies/cities, this is increasing because in 2022 it includes 11 provinces with 18 regencies/cities. The details for 2023 are as follows:

Gresik, Pasuruan, Lamongan, Banyuwangi and Biltar (East Java Province), Bogor, Garut, Bekasi regencies, Bandung, Bandung, Sukabumi, and Cianjur (West Java Province, Temanggung Regency and Cilacap (Central Java Province), South Jakarta (DKI Jakarta), Banjarmasin City (South Kalimantan Province), Palangkaraya City (Central Kalimantan Province), Samarinda City (East Kalimantan Province), Bengkulu City and Rejang Lebong Regency (Bengkulu Province), Samosir (North Sumatra Province); Palembang (South Sumatra), South Halmahera (North Maluku Province), and Muna Regency ( Southeast Sulawesi).
