2024 Election Only 45 Days Left, Jokowi: Central KPU To Regions Must Be Ready

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reminded the provincial and regional-level General Election Commission (KPU) to be ready to face the 2024 General Election. He said the time was getting closer because there were only 45 days left.

"There is no other word. KPU from the center to the regions must be ready, ready to carry out honest and fair elections, which are believed by the people and the 2024 General Election is only 45 days away," Jokowi said while attending a KPU consolidation event broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Saturday, December 30.

Jokowi said the 2024 election was more complex because it was held simultaneously from presidential elections to the Regency and City Provincial DPRD. Thus, the maximum preparation must be made by the KPU as an organizing institution.

"This is the simultaneous election of the presidential election, DPR, DPD, Provincial DPRD and City, and involves the last number I received 204,807,222 in 38 provinces, 514 districts and cities, 7,277 sub-districts, 83,771 villages, involving 18 national political parties, and 6 local Aceh parties," he said.

"We can imagine how complex our election is. It is very complex and all of this is a law order that must be carried out as well as possible," continued the former governor of DKI Jakarta.

Furthermore, Jokowi also reminded the need for good governance in the implementation of the upcoming elections. The availability and distribution of logistics must be carried out optimally and supporting technology together with the system needs to be prepared.

"Don't let anything be scattered. Everything must be good and nothing should go wrong, including the technical aspect. Be careful about this. We have to pay attention to small things in detail because technical negligence can have political implications, can have political implications, can spread everywhere that can disrupt conduciveness, which can disrupt election legitimacy," he concluded.
