Makassar Mayor Moh Ramdhan Pomanto launched an electric school bus as part of the city government's commitment to support low-carbon cities.

"Bus sekolah listrik ini adalah bentuk komitmen Pemkot Makassar untuk mewujudkan kotalow carbon sebagai bentuk dukungan terhadap program pemerintah pusat," ujarnya dilansir ANTARA, Kamis, 28 Desember.

Danny - Ramdhan Pomanto's nickname, said that the electric school bus is part of the form of the "Jatai Anakta" program that prepares free school buses.

He stated that the electric school bus that was launched was equipped with a surveillance camera (CCTV) to monitor the activities of school children.

"This year we start with three electric buses, so this is a means of transporting our children's schools. So it's a special school bus," he said.

The Mayor of Makassar for the two periods also targets 15 school buses to be realized in 2024 for further distribution in each sub-district.

"Our target is 15 units, so that every sub-district is one unit. By the end of this year there will be three units, the rest will follow," said Danny Pomanto.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Makassar Transportation Service (Dishub) Aulia Arsyad said that bus units could carry 29 school children.

"The route will be, while we are compiling it. God willing, it will be operational next month. What is interesting is that there is a CCTV camera, so it can be controlled by a command center. We can also connect it with the Mayor's cellphone. So the children are more controlled," he concluded.
