JAKARTA - A total of 764 Correctional Inmates (WBP) or inmates at the DKI Jakarta Detention Center and Prison received special remissions at the 2023 Christmas celebration. At least, 17 of them received free remission.

Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kakanwil Kemenkumham) DKI Jakarta, Ibnu Chuldun said, as many as 764 inmates received remissions from a total of 15138 inmates in all prisons and detention centers in DKI Jakarta.

"In 2023, of the number of WBP 15138 people, 764 people have been proposed to get special remission this Christmas. 17 of them can get free remission," Ibnu told reporters at the Cipinang Class I Prison, East Jakarta, Sunday, December 25.

Ibnu hopes that by granting special remissions and reducing this criminal period, it will spur the enthusiasm of the inmates so that they can follow the coaching program properly.

"Of the 764 people who received remission, there were 747 special remission recipients (still have to undergo the remaining criminal charges). 2 special remission recipients or immediately released 17 people. One of them we gave the remission," he said.

Ibnu said the total capacity of inmates in prisons and detention centers in DKI Jakarta was only to accommodate 5963 people. However, in reality, there were 15138 inmates in prisons and detention centers in DKI Jakarta.

"This means that the capacity is already very over capacity, but until now the situation remains conducive. This is thanks to our support, collaboration, cooperation with the provincial government, local governments and other law enforcers, both from the Police, TNI, District Attorney's Office and the High Court," he said.
