2 Midwives In Medan Become Baby Trafficking Suspects

MEDAN - The police have named 2 new suspects in the case of selling babies in Medan. The suspects are RS (43) and SP (42) who work as midwives.

The two suspects were determined after the arrest of suspect, A (42), a resident of Pukat VII, East Bantan, Medan Tembung, Monday, February 15.

"Yes, the Hospital and SP work as midwives. Determination of the suspect after the title is carried out," said the Head of Sub-Directorate for Youth Children and Women (Renakta) of the North Sumatra Regional Police, AKBP Simon P Sinulingga, Friday, February 19.

In this case, there were 3 suspects in total. The three of them are still being investigated by the marathon by investigators.

Police rescued two babies aged 14 days and 21 days. This baby was sent to Bhayangkara Hospital Medan to get treatment.

AKBP Simon explained that the suspect RS had sold a baby to suspect A in October 2020.

"There is evidence of a transfer of 13 million and the suspect has also admitted," explained Simon.

Meanwhile, Head of TPPO, Sub-Directorate of Renakta, Kompol Bayu P Samara said that the suspect in the case of selling babies was indeed related. For the suspect with the initials SP, he played the role of selling the baby to the suspect in RS. The suspect with the initials RS then sold the baby to suspect A.

"This is a human trafficking syndicate. We are still investigating it to uncover this case," he said.

Currently, he said, the police are still searching for the whereabouts of the victim's parents.

"We need information from them. Whether the baby was sold, kidnapped or what. We don't know yet. Hopefully the baby's parents are found," he hoped.

For their actions, the three suspects were subject to Article 76 F in conjunction with Article 83 of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection.
