Nailul Huda From Celios Criticizes Steps To Establish State Revenue Agency In Handling Tax Issues

JAKARTA - Economist Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios) Nailul Huda said the establishment of the state revenue agency had not been able to address fundamental issues related to tax absorption.

"Regarding state revenues that are widely mentioned by Gibran's vice presidential candidate (cawapres) by establishing a state revenue agency, one step is wrong if you want to increase tax and customs revenues but the main problem of this tax is not resolved," Huda told ANTARA in Jakarta, Saturday, December 23.

According to him, the main problem related to taxes is corruption activities at the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP). As a result, the dominant tax revenue is taxes that are already systemized, while the taxes of individuals (OPs) are still very low.

On the other hand, Huda also criticized the discourse of the state revenue agency which was directly damped by the president. Huda believes that the discourse has the potential to generate very strong strength from the internal side of the agency.

"Now under the Ministry of Finance and the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), you can still play, especially later you become your own body?" he said.

Huda added that the scheme to improve tax revenue that makes more sense to implement is the idea of vice presidential candidate Muhaimin Iskandar regarding taxes on rich people (wealth tax).

He assessed that the tax implementation of the rich could solve two problems at once, namely overcoming the lack of tax revenue and redistributing wealth.
