Anies Promises To Give Ojol BPJS Employment

Presidential candidate number 1, Anies Baswedan promised to provide BPJS Employment for online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol). According to Anies, social security programs such as BPJS Ketenagakerjaan can cover the maintenance of ojol drivers from accidents while driving. "We will prepare regulations that require BPJS employment for ojol drivers throughout Indonesia, so there is a guarantee that there will be an accident," Anies said during a test on the idea of a presidential candidate at Bina Bangsa University, Serang, Banten, Thursday, December 21. Anies gave an example, when he served as Governor of DKI Jakarta for the 2017-2022 period, he provided access to social security for informal workers, one of which was the management of RT and RW. So, according to Anies, protection from work accidents is not only needed by formal sector workers. "For example, the head of the RT, the head of the RW, they work for the public. When on duty there is an accident, who helps lighten the costs? No. We in Jakarta provide them with BPJS with health insurance. This is an informal sector that must get protection," explained Anies. On that occasion, Anies also highlighted the condition of employment in Indonesia which did not absorb much labor. Anies explained that the data he had, investment that entered Indonesia during the last 10 years was quite high, the figure reached Rp. 1,200 trillion in 2022. "The employment of the workforce has decreased. What does that mean? This means that investment in the capital-intensive sector so that it does not absorb labor," Anies said. On that basis, Anies sees the need for changes in the form of reindustrialization that absorbs labor with a labor-intensive investment approach.

"That way there will be a lot of jobs. So, that's the demand side for the workforce. Second, the supply side ensures that the demand for the workforce is met, by the local workers," he added.
