Vice President Encourages KONI To Increase Championships And Sports Schools

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin as the Head of the Coordination Team for the National Sports Center (DBON) encourages the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) to increase championships and sports schools, especially in the regions to produce outstanding national athletes.

"We will see what talents in the area have a lot of sports, so increase championships, increase matches," said the Vice President when receiving the ranks of the Central KONI Management at the Vice President's Palace, Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 19.

Vice President Ma'ruf said sports schools in the regions as part of talent management could be established and imitate DKI Jakarta which has a Student Sports Training Center in Ragunan, South Jakarta.

"At least potential provinces must be able to build sports education centers, (this) must be encouraged indeed," he said.

In addition, the Vice President also highlighted the importance of fostering reliable sports coaches. Because like in the world of education, the role of teachers is very important in producing outstanding students.

"If education wants to excel, the teacher must excel. So (in sports) how do we have reliable coaches in all sports fields, whether it should be sent to school or should be given training abroad, so that later he can return home as a reliable coach," he explained.

The vice president also asked the coaches to be encouraged not to hesitate to apply methods or concepts of coaching from abroad that have proven to be able to produce outstanding athletes at the international level.

"If necessary, we just imitate, observe, imitate, which one has succeeded. The conditions to be able to excel must be met," he asked.

The vice president expects KONI to support DBON's national program so that it does not only stop in planning, but also in determining priority sports that must be developed, talent management, and financing.

"Since the beginning, the DBON must be clear, one of which is financing. What kind of financing should be. The DBON financing support is not only from the APBN, but also from the APBD, as well as non-governmental support," he said.

To further motivate various stakeholders in building the field of Indonesian sports, the Vice President asked KONI to give awards to those who contributed greatly to advancing sports achievements such as local governments, ministries/agencies, as well as private parties.

"Maybe it can be held every year, it can be held here (The Vice President's Palace), they will be proud, especially if the President gives it, they will be even more enthusiastic," he said.
