Jokowi Invites ASEAN-Japan To Implement Partnerships With Concrete Cooperation

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) invited ASEAN-Japan to implement a strategic comprehensive partnership as capital to strengthen relations amidst the current global uncertainty.

The President said the ASEAN-Japan partnership for 50 years had achieved many achievements in maintaining stability and peace, bringing the community closer, and driving regional economic growth.

This was conveyed by Jokowi in his remarks at the opening of the 50th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation Conference (KTT) which was held at The Okura Hotel, Tokyo, Japan, Sunday, December 17.

"So it must be realized in the form of concrete cooperation that is mutually beneficial and beneficial for the community, such as infrastructure funding, energy transition, digital transformation, food security, and strengthening supply chains," said Jokowi, confiscated from a press release.

Jokowi said the ASEAN-Japan partnership must be future-oriented. He also hopes that Japan as one of the most active partners can continue to be trusted partners in realizing East Asia and the Indo-Pacific as a formidable region and become the center of economic growth.

"We are all responsible for maintaining the peace, stability and inclusiveness of the region through strengthening the habit of dialogue and cooperation," said Jokowi.

The President hopes that the ASEAN-Japan partnership will be based on a joint vision statement and implementation plans that will result from this summit.

Not only that, the results of this summit are expected to support the vision of the ASEAN 2045 Community.

"I hope this new generation partnership can be an anchor for the prosperity, peace, and stability of our common region," explained the President.

Also accompanying President Jokowi at the 50th Anniversary of Friendship Relations and Cooperation ASEAN-Japan, namely Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi.
