Alert, Heavy Rain Accompanied By Lightning And Strong Winds Potentially Landed By A Number Of Provinces

JAKARTA - The public is advised to be aware of the potential for moderate to heavy rain which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in some provinces in Indonesia. This was stated by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Saturday, December 16.

In the weather early warning system, BMKG predicts that the province that has the potential to experience moderate to heavy rain has the potential to occur in Aceh, Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, quoted by Antara.

Then, Gorontalo, Jambi, West Java, East Java, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Maluku, North Maluku.

Then, East Nusa Tenggara, Papua, West Papua, Riau, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, and North Sumatra.

The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reminded the public to always monitor weather forecasts if they want to travel during the Christmas and New Year holidays, especially if they want to travel through nature.

"Wherever we travel, to mountainous areas or beaches, we always get used to seeing weather forecasts, especially hilly areas and river tourism," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari.

The man who is familiarly called Aam emphasized the public to be aware of the dangers of flooding that can come at any time at natural tourist attractions near the river flow, considering that not many people are paying attention to weather conditions in upstream areas of the river.

Furthermore, he also emphasized the same thing to people who want to travel in areas located on slopes of mountains, hills and cliffs, because high rainfall has the potential to cause landslides.

"View is good, but we have to anticipate the threat of danger, that doesn't mean it's not allowed," he said.

For this reason, Aam encourages local governments to establish the status of 'Alert' or 'Emergency' in places prone to disasters, so that if a disaster occurs at any time, BNPB can participate in intervening in handling natural disasters.
