The KPK Does Not Provide Legal Aid But Will Help Firli Bahuri Regarding Document Requests

Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Alexander Marwata said there was no legal assistance provided by the anti-corruption agency to Firli Bahuri who was a corruption suspect. This affirmation was conveyed by Alexander Marwata when presented by Firli Bahuri's camp as a fact witness in the pre-adial trial at the South Jakarta District Court. "Yesterday's legal assistance was conveyed that the KPK did not provide legal assistance but we will facilitate when it comes to requests for documents," said Alex in response to questions from the advocacy team for the Legal Sector of the Polda Metro Jaya, Thursday, December 14. The KPK's decision not to provide legal assistance because it is considered unethical for corruption eradication institutions to defend corruption suspects. "If the case involving corruption is of course unethical as a corruption eradication enforcement agency to defend corruption suspects. So, it was concluded that at that time," said Alex. However, said Alex, the KPK continues to assist Firli Bahiri regarding the provision of documents. This is because Firli's status has not been completely dismissed. "We do not provide legal assistance but we will assist from another side regarding the provision of the documents needed for his benefit," said Alex. Firli Bahuri in the petitum of the Pretrial petition asked the panel of judges to order the Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto to issue a Letter of Termination of Investigation (SP3) in the alleged extortion case against Syahrul Yasin Limpo who named him a suspect.

The reason behind the request was because it was considered that the investigation warrant issued by Karyoto was invalid. This is because the letter was issued on the same day as the issuance of a police report (LP) on October 9.
