4.6 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Sukabumi, Feels Until Jabodetabek

A magnitude 4.6 earthquake rocked the Sukabumi region, West Java on Thursday, December 14 at 6.35 WIB.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in its statement said that the location of the earthquake was at 6.76 south latitude, 106.53 east longitude.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 24 kilometers northwest of Sukabumi Regency, West Java. The depth of the earthquake reached 5 kilometers.

This earthquake was felt until the Jabodetabek area. Riska, a resident of Depok, West Java, revealed that the earthquake tremors were quite strong in Depok.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bogor City, West Java has not found any impacts from the tectonic earthquake in the Sukabumi Regency area with a magnitude of Thursday, December 14 at 4:10:34 WIB and 4.6 magnitude at 6.35.12 WIB.

"One hour later, no impact has been reported by officers or residents. Hopefully it will be safe," said Head of BPBD Bogor City Hidayatullah.

Hidayatullah appealed to the public to remain alert to disasters this rainy season. Residents are expected to always ensure that the condition of the building is not prone to collapse, does not live under large trees while taking shelter and does not travel when it rains.

He also ensured that BPBD officers in the area were ready to help residents affected by the disaster.

"We are on standby, we always monitor it," he said.

Head of the Data and Information Center Section of the BMKG Climatology Station Hadi Saputra said that on Thursday (14/12) at 06:35:12 WIB, the Sukabumi Regency and its surroundings were rocked by tectonic earthquakes.

The results of the BMKG analysis show that the epicenter of this earthquake has a magnitude of 4.6 at coordinates 6.76 South Latitude and 106.53 East Longitude, or precisely located on land at a distance of 25 kilometers northwest of Sukabumi Regency at a depth of 5 kilometers.

The Head of BBMKG Region II Tangerang Hartono explained that by taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake due to active fault activity.

Then, the impact of the earthquake was described by the shock level map or Shakemap BMKG and based on reports from the public, this earthquake was felt in the Pamijahan area, Bogor Regency with an Intensity scale III - IV MMI.

In Panggarangan, Bayah, Kalapanunggal, Cilograng, Bogor Regency with an MMI Intensity III scale, vibrations are felt real in the house.
