In Debt Allegedly One Family Motive In Malang Suicide

Malang Resort Police (Polres) revealed the motive for the case of a family suspected of committing suicide in Boro Hamlet, Pakis District, Malang Regency, East Java, after conducting an in-depth investigation. The Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Malang Police, AKP Gandha Syah Hidaya, said that based on the results of an interim investigation, it was known that the motive for the suicide of three people in one family was related to debt. "From here we can conclude that the motive for the actions taken by the late Mr. WE is more towards economic motives," said Gandha as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 13.

For information, there were three victims who died who were suspected of committing suicide, namely the husband's father with the initials WE (43), the wife with the initials S (40) and the son of ARE (12). One other child, AKE (12) is safe and alive. AKE and ARE are the twins of the couple. Gandha explained, so far, the Malang Police have asked for information from seven witnesses in the suicide case. The witnesses who have been in demand by the information included the head of the local Rukun Warga (RW) who is the victim's neighbor. In addition, he continued, the police have also asked for information from the surviving WE child, namely AKE. From the examination of a number of witnesses, it is known that WE had asked for help to borrow some money. "Some of the witnesses we asked for information, provided information that several previous opportunities, concerned WE had asked for help to borrow some money," he said.

One week before the suicide, victim WE had told a number of witnesses, WE could not return the money he borrowed. The police do not know for sure the amount of the victim's debt.

"It still needs to be explored for the amount of financial burden that is owned by brother WE. We haven't been able to explore how much it is related to how much. (Debt since when) we haven't explored the issue, which is clear that the person concerned has a debt burden," he explained. WE is a teacher at one of the State Elementary Schools (SDN) in Sukun District, Malang City, and his wife, S, selling cakes at home.
