JAKARTA - Bandung Regional Police ranks did an unannounced inspection (sidak) on urine tests on their members due to the case of the Astanaanyar Police Chief who is suspected of being involved in drug abuse.
Head of Bandung Regional Police Ujang Burhanuddin said urine tests were routinely held to ensure police officers were free from drugs.
The first inspection was carried out at the Bandung Wetan Police, Bandung City, West Java.
"Today, the urine tests were carried out at three sector police (polsek), Polsek Bawet (Bandung Wetan), Bandung Sumur, and Regol, thank God, for Bawet, all 10 were tested negative", said Ujang as quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 18.
According to him, the urine samples for a number of police officers were examined by the Bandung Police Medical and Health Team (Dokkes). The urine test targets members from the police chief to his ranks.
With the involvement of drug abuse cases in the Bandung Police, Ujang appealed to all members not to mess with these prohibited items.
The reason, he said, was that the threat of penalties was clear in line with the direction of the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who would dishonorably fire a member who was proven to have consumed drugs.
"If someone is tested positive (for drugs), it is immediately sanctioned because there are provisions", said Ujang.
Currently, dozens of members of the Bandung Police, especially at the Astanaanyar Police, are suspected of being involved in drug abuse. One of the members involved was the Astanaanyar Police Chief, namely YP.
The West Java Regional Police have taken firm action by securing and examining the members involved. YP has now been removed from her position as the Astanaanyar Police Chief.
