JAKARTA - The Palestinians have asked the new United States authorities to review the security situation in the West Bank following attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinian villages.
Based on a report by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the latest attacks were carried out by Israeli settlers in the villages of al-Funduq, Jinsafut, and Amatin.
"We ask the new United States government to step in to stop Israel's crimes and policies that will not bring peace and security to anyone," said Palestinian presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh, on Tuesday, January 21, quoted by ANTARA from Sputnik-OANA.
Abu Rudeineh said the only way to achieve security and stability is to carry out international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative as the basis for resolving Palestinian issues, as well as realizing the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
In December 2024, the news agency reported Israeli settlers attacking Marda village in the West Bank and setting fire to a local mosque.
The latest attack on the West Bank comes amid a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
Israel and Hamas, with the mediation of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, reached a 42-day ceasefire agreement on January 15.

They expressed intention to end the hostilities that have killed more than 47,000 Palestinians and about 1,500 Israelis over 15 months, extending to Lebanon and Yemen, and triggering missile attacks between Israel and Iran.
The first phase of the agreement includes partial exchange of prisoners, withdrawal of Israeli troops to the Gaza border, and humanitarian assistance. The second and third stages still need to be agreed upon.
As part of this agreement, Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, as the underwriters, will establish a coordination center in Cairo.
