6 Subdistricts In Ketapang, West Kalimantan Flood, Disaster Emergency Response Status Can Be Extended

The flood disaster hit 26 villages from six sub-districts in Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan). Floods with water levels ranging from one to two meters occurred since late November due to the high intensity of rainfall so that river water overflowed.

Head of the West Kalimantan BPBD Disaster Information Task Force Daniel said this flood had an impact on 5,445 families or 20,938 residents. The Ketapang Regency Government has established a flood disaster emergency response status to facilitate the response process.

"In this regard, the Ketapang Regency Government has established an emergency response status from November 28 yesterday to December 11," he said, Sunday, December 10.

Daniel said the emergency response status could be extended according to the conditions or situations on the ground. If the handling has not shown significant results, the status will not be revoked.

"When conditions are restored, this status will still end on December 11," he said.

Daniel also encouraged all components of society, both in Ketapang Regency and other areas, to work together to distribute aid to residents affected by the flood.

"In accordance with our ability to provide assistance to flood victims. Of course we are concerned," he said.

Six sub-districts hit by floods in Ketapangan, include Nanga Tayap, Sandai, Hulu Sungai, Tumbang Titi, Sungai Laur, and Muara Pawan.

Some areas are starting to recede, but there are also areas that are still flooded with water levels above one meter.

This flood inundated residential areas, plantations, houses of worship, as well as hundreds of public facilities and roads. As a result, people's activities were disrupted and even paralyzed.

A number of people were displaced and the local government had also distributed aid to flood victims.
