JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan exhibited cleaner air conditions in the Capital City during the COVID-19 pandemic. Anies conveyed this when attending the C40 Forum event with a number of regional heads and figures from various countries.

Anies said, big cities are currently at the forefront of facing challenges and opportunities. Cities around the world are facing the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, but also the effects of climate change.

"Let's take the COVID-19 pandemic as an example. Because the movement of people is restricted, the city's economy is slowing down. In Jakarta, Anies said the region has also succeeded in gaining momentum for cleaner air by achieving several milestones in transportation and mobility issues.

"In fact, we fell to position 31. Second, the number of cyclists in Jakarta has increased quite significantly. In fact, in some areas it has increased tenfold," said Anies.

Anies said, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is trying to encourage people to change their mindset about cycling. From sports or entertainment to transportation.

DKI has also established 96 kilometers of bicycle paths supported by 52 bicycle sharing points. The plan is to extend the bicycle path for about 500 kilometers.
