JAKARTA - Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana said the summons sent by a number of advocates to President Joko Widodo was a form of freedom of expression in a democratic country.

"Our country is a democracy based on law. Every citizen including advocates has the freedom to convey ideas, opinions, aspirations and even criticism of state administrators," Ari said in a short message quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, December 7, responding to the summons.

Previously, a number of advocates from the Indonesian Democratic Defenders Team (TPDI) and the Archipelago Government submitted summons to President Joko Widodo regarding various political and legal events that occurred after the Constitutional Court Decision (MK) Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023, dated October 16, 2023 and the Constitutional Court Honorary Council (MKMK) Decision Number 2/MKMK/L/ARLTP/10/2023.

The advocates considered that there was abuse of authority that caused anomalies in the government and had an impact on the social life of the Indonesian people.

Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana said there was no specific response to the summons.

According to him, with or without a subpoena, the President remains committed to realizing quality democracy, maintaining the neutrality of state apparatus and upholding the rule of law.
