SAMARINDA - The Prosecutor's Office is committed to building public legal awareness to avoid misappropriation of the 2024 General Election from the village level, through the "Keep Village" Program (Village Guard Prosecutor).

"The program is one of the main focuses of the current government, in line with the Nawacita of the President regarding village-level community services," said Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence (JAM-Intelijen) of the East Kalimantan High Prosecutor's Office, Reda Manthovani, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 4.

He said there was an urgent need to regulate strategic and comprehensive policies, especially in the context of legal awareness in more than 80,000 villages in Indonesia.

The Attorney General's Instruction Number 5 of 2023 entitled "Building Legal Awareness from the Village," according to him, became the basis for these efforts.

"Village development is not only limited to physical aspects such as infrastructure, but includes unphysical development to support the sustainability of the development," he said.

The "Keep Village" Program (Village Guard Prosecutor), he continued, is an implementation of the non-physical development initiative with three main focuses, namely legal counseling to the village community, assistance in the use of Village Funds, and the construction of facilities for resolving conflicts in villages.

The program is considered successful in almost 80 percent of villages, with the main aim of increasing legal awareness, overseeing sustainable development, and reducing disputes that lead to court.

Regarding the 2024 election, Manthovani emphasized the importance of neutralizing village officials to maintain neutrality so as not to get involved in practical politics. The Prosecutor's Office has taken proactive steps to ensure that neutrality includes the creation of a Memorandum related to the Neutrality of Law Enforcement Apparatus.

Manthovani hopes that the 2024 election will run successfully without any suspicion or spread of hoax news. He also invited the public and the media to supervise and criticize the implementation of the election if there was a violation of the laws and regulations.
