E-KTP Corruption Intervention, Jokowi Denies Meeting Agus Rahardjo

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) denied the statement by former KPK Chairman Agus Rahardjo who said he wanted to intervene in the e-KTP corruption case involving former DPR Speaker Setya Novanto. Jokowi also emphasized that there was no meeting with Agus Rahardjo at that time.

Jokowi emphasized that in 2017, he firmly instructed former Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives Setya Novanto to obey the law.

"The first thing, try to see, seen in the 2017 news in November. I conveyed at that time, 'Pak Setya Novanto, follow the existing legal process,' clear. The news is all there," said Jokowi at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday 4 December.

Jokowi admitted that he was surprised by the accusations currently being taken. The reason is, Setya Novanto has been severely punished and is currently serving his sentence as a convict or convict in an electronic ID card project corruption case for 15 years.

"Secondly, the proof is that the legal process is ongoing. Third, Mr. Setya Novanto has been sentenced, sentenced to 15 years in prison," said President Jokowi.

The President also questioned what interests made it seem to be being discussed recently.

"Then why is it enlivened? What interests are enlivened? For what purposes?" said Jokowi.

Regarding Agus Rahardjo who claimed to have been summoned by Jokowi because the KPK was asked to stop the e-KTP corruption case involving Setya Novanto, Jokowi invited him to examine his agenda.

"I told him to check, how many tens of meetings a day. I told him to check at the State Secretariat (Secretariat) there was none. There is no agenda in the State Secretariat, please check again," concluded Jokowi.

As is known, former KPK chairman Agus Rahardjo in a talk on a private television program admitted that he had been summoned by President Joko Widodo when he was chairman of the KPK. According to Agus, President Jokowi asked the KPK to stop the e-KTP corruption case involving Setya Novanto.

Agus' statement became the subject of discussion and invited public polemics.
