Playing In Water On Pancer Beach, Jember With 3 Friends, 11-Year-Old Boy Dragged By Ombak Dies

11-year-old boy named Moh. Ruri Khoirul Basar died after being dragged by the waves of Pancer Beach, Jember Regency, East Java, Sunday, December 3.

This incident when the victim and his friends were Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) students traveling at the tourist attraction.

"The victim and his friends as many as 10 people took a bath at sea, precisely on the west coast of the wave breaker on Pancer Beach without adult supervision," said Puger Sub-district Head Heru Widagdo when confirmed, Sunday, December 3, as reported by Antara.

Large waves dragged the victim and three other children who were bathing in the southern coastal sea. However, the other three children, Rijal, Gofur, and Fatur, were rescued.

"At that time the four children shouted for help and several people who happened to be at the location were fishing tried to provide help to those who were dragged by the waves," he said.

Based on witness testimony, the three children, namely Rijal, Gofur, and Fatur, were quickly rescued by a number of anglers, while the victim Ruri, who could not swim, could not be helped quickly and was adrift on the beach.

"The victim allegedly could not swim and experienced respiratory failure which resulted in the death of the person concerned. The victim's body could be evacuated and taken to the Puger Health Center for a post-mortem, and no injuries were found on the victim's body," he said.

Heru appealed to visitors to the Pancer Beach tourist attraction not to take a shower or swim into the middle of the ocean because the waves on the south coast are still high and sea waves can come at any time.

"We also urge tourists of children who play on the beach to receive strict supervision from their parents so that unwanted things do not happen," said Heru, who is also the former Secretary of the Jember BPBD.
