Support From The House Of Representatives For The Welfare Of Honorary Teachers Forms Education Transformation

JAKARTA - The encouragement of the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, who reminded that the derivation of the State Civil Apparatus Law (UU ASN) which has just accommodated honorary teachers is considered a form of realizing the transformation of education. Because by improving the welfare of teachers, this will improve the quality of Indonesian education.

"I appreciate what the Chairman of the DPR RI said regarding how the Government must meet the expectations of honorary teachers to be immediately appointed as PPPK ASN to prepare future teachers, and improve the competence of structured teachers based on the needs of teachers. This is to support the transformation of our education," said the Chairman of the PGRI Executive Board, Dudung Abdul Qodir, Wednesday, November 29.

As the leader of the legislative body, Puan is considered to be also fighting for the rights of the teachers. Starting from welfare, teacher protection, increasing the competence of education personnel, to encouraging the reform of the salary system for honorary teachers.

Dudung said that PGRI believes that the Indonesian House of Representatives will continue to help the struggle of teachers.

"I hope that the Chairperson of the DPR RI will continue to oversee national education policies and strive to improve the welfare, competence, appreciation and protection of teachers," he said.

In addition, Dudung gave his appreciation to Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives who participated in fighting for the critical attitude of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI) regarding the Merdeka Curriculum. He mentioned the unpreparedness of teachers in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum so that problems often still occur in schools.

"There are many inputs, ideas, ideas, our thoughts that are at the same frequency as what the DPR RI is fighting for regarding the Merdeka Curriculum. Including for the welfare and protection of teachers, and special attention for teachers and educators in the 3T area," said Dudung.

According to him, support from all stakeholders is needed in fighting for hope and dreams for quality and equitable education throughout Indonesia, as well as in an effort so that teachers and educators can be prosperous and protected. Dudung hopes that the synergy between PGRI and the DPR, especially Commission X in charge of education affairs, can be established properly.

"In the era of disruption that is full of challenges, pressure as well as hope, any nation, including Indonesia that wants to progress and is modern, must glorify, destabilize, prosper, protect and protect teachers by making the teaching profession the number one profession in our beloved country," he explained.

On the other hand, Dudung emphasized that PGRI is committed to protecting the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and continues to fill its independence through the education service process continuously. PGRI as a forum for the teaching profession is also said to continue to improve education quality-based management to make it even better.

"PGRI continues to struggle to improve the welfare of teachers, improve the status of honorary teachers to ASN PNS or ASN PPPK, carry out the transformation of teacher governance and education personnel from upstream to downstream. We hope that in every policy regarding education and teachers it can involve PGRI," said Dudung.

Previously, the Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, emphasized that the DPR would continue to oversee the Government's policy to ensure the fate of honorary teachers. Moreover, the new State Civil Apparatus Law (ASN) has mandated that the Government guarantees honorary employees following the abolition of honorary staff status in the government next year.

"I hope that the derivative rules of the ASN Law can also accommodate the fate of honorary teachers, especially those who have served for decades but because their status is still honorary, their income is very small," said Puan in commemoration of National Teacher's Day (HGN) 2023, some time ago.
