JAKARTA - The Malaysian government has asked its citizens who are currently still in Iran to leave the country immediately.

This was conveyed by the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the increasing tension between Israel and Iran.

"Given the rapidly deteriorating condition, all Malaysian citizens who are currently in Iran are urged to leave the country in any way available," wrote a statement from Wisma Putra as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 17.

Wisma Putra said Malaysia's Foreign Ministry, through the Malaysian Embassy in Tehran, was closely monitoring the security situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The ongoing efforts are intensifying following the Israeli regime's aggression against Iran on June 13, which has significantly increased tensions in the region.

Wisma Putra views the current situation as still very unstable and can worsen without warning.

"The safety and welfare of Malaysian citizens remains the ministry's top priority. Currently, the Embassy continues to relate to all Malaysian citizens registered in Iran," the statement explained.

Currently, all Malaysian citizens are declared safe and have been advised to leave the country without delay.

The embassy will continue to provide the consular assistance needed to facilitate their departure.

Wisma Putra asked Malaysians to contact the embassy in Tehran in case of an emergency.
