JABAR - Bandung City Government (Pemkot) recommends the 2024 City Drinking Wage (UMK) to increase by 17 percent to Rp4,736,701. The recommendation has been submitted to the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of West Java (Jabar).

Head of the Bandung City Manpower Office (Disnaker) Andri Darusman said the amount of UMK recommended was the result of the Bandung City Wage Council meeting.

"So initially we proposed that according to PP No. 51 it was a maximum of 4 percent increase, so we proposed 3.97 percent or around Rp. 160 thousand. But we discussed again and we proposed again to be 17 percent," Andri said in Bandung, Wednesday.

Andri explained that the proposal was made based on the conditions of workers' demands in various regions demanding an increase in the UMK above 15 percent.

"The consideration is that the UMK is also measured by economic growth and inflation rate. Last year, for example, civil servant salaries reportedly rose but the price of goods had gone up first. Finally, purchasing power decreased, worried about inflation too," he said.

He said that based on the results of the Wage Council meeting with employers and labor unions, the wage value increased by Rp. 688,238 from the UMK value in 2023, which was Rp. 4,048,462.

Furthermore, he said, the proposed increase of 17 percent could not necessarily be granted. However, his party has submitted this proposal to the West Java Provincial Government.

Andri said that regarding the determination of the UMK, the West Java Provincial Government will decide on Thursday, November 30, and his party is confident that the determination of the UMK can determine the best value for each city/district.

"Regarding UMK, the government is only a referee, we are in the midst of workers and entrepreneurs. We also listen to entrepreneurs who object if the UMK is raised too high, they can disband their businesses. If it goes up, it's not just workers," he said.
