The Corruption Court (Tipikor), heard a case of alleged corruption in the budget of the Police Academy (Akpol) Semarang, Central Java, for the 2014-2019 period.

Public Prosecutor Ruri Febrianto in his indictment charged the defendant Mardiyono who is the Treasurer of the Finance Section of the Semarang Police Academy for alleged embezzlement of the DIPA budget with a total of Rp630 million.

"The defendant allegedly used part of the funds originating from the DIPA budget in the 2014 to 2019 period for his personal needs," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, November 29.

According to him, the budget was taken from the activity post for the daily needs of the Semarang Police Academy.

The total state loss due to the budget enjoyed by the defendant for his personal needs, he continued, reached Rp630 million.

For his actions, the defendant was charged with Article 8 of Law Number 31 of 1999 which was amended and added to Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of corruption.

The prosecutor said the case was handled by the Attorney General's Office, which was an overflow from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police.

According to him, the defendant, who is a civil servant of the National Police, is currently being held in Semarang Prison during his trial.

On the prosecutor's charge, Chief Judge Judi Prasetya gave the defendant the opportunity to file an exception on the prosecutor's charges.
