Mount Anak Krakatau Eruption Again This Afternoon

South LAMPUNG - Mount Anak Krakatau, which is located in the waters of the Sunda Strait, South Lampung Regency, Lampung Province, erupted again this afternoon.

The height of the ash column was observed to be about 800 meters above the peak or about 957 meters above sea level.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that the eruption occurred at 11.38 WIB, Tuesday, November 27.

The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 60 millimeters and a duration of approximately 33 seconds.

The ash column was observed to be gray to black with thick intensity to the north of the sea.

Reported by ANTARA, a resident of Sebesi Island Village, Rajabasa District, Angga Irawan, said that he and residents were used to the roar of Mount Anak Krakatau.

"We used to bang, with the voices of the roar of Krakatau, but yes, we on Sebesi Island are always vigilant," said Angga.

Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in Hargopancuran, Rajabasa District, South Lampung, Andi Suardi, said the closest settlement of Mount Anak Krakatau is on Sebesi Island, which is 16.5 kilometers away.

Andi appealed to the public and fishermen not to approach the Mount Anak Krakatau area at a radius of five kilometers.

"Currently Mount Anak Krakatau is at level III, on standby, with the recommendations of the community, fishermen, mountain climbers, not approaching the mountain with a radius of five kilometers," he said.

To note, Mount Anak Krakatau experienced an eruption 21 times from November 26 to November 28 morning.
