DPR Hosts Parliamentary Forum 5 Middle Power Countries, Artificial Intelligence Becomes Discussions

JAKARTA - The House of Representatives hosted a parliamentary meeting of MIKTA members (Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia) which are middle-power (middle-power) countries. The House of Representatives will bring a number of key issues to the deliberation forum for the chairman of the MiKTA parliament.

Deputy Chairperson of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Gilang Dhielafararez said, in the meeting of the MiKTA or MiKTA Speakers' 9th Consultation will discuss three main issues. The three issues are how parliament plays a role in strengthening multilateralism, inclusive recovery, and digital transformation.

"These three issues will make MIKTA's role as a middle power country in responding to global challenges that are more explicit. Because this global problem cannot be solved by just great powers," said Gilang, Saturday, November 18.

The 9th Mikta Speakers' Consultation will be held at the Kempinsky Hotel, Central Jakarta on November 20, 2023. The MiKTA Speakers' Consultation itself is a consular meeting forum between the Speakers of the Parliament of the countries of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia.

In this year's MIKTA chairmanship period, the Indonesian House of Representatives carries the theme Strengthening Multilateralism, Intergenerational Challenges' which is in line with the three main issues brought by the DPR. Gilang said that the challenges facing the world today are intergenerational in which these challenges not only have an impact on life today but also on future generations.

"As a young generation, we all have a responsibility to continue to encourage and strive to strengthen multilateralism to answer these challenges," explained the man who also sits on Commission III of the DPR RI.

"Therefore, the DPR understands that the role of the younger generation needs to be improved again so that it gives rise to various answers in facing every challenge to the world," added Gilang.

This young DPR member said that intergenerational challenges generally centered on the exchange of knowledge, norms and cultural traditions. Then, said Gilang, in terms of support and resource exchange, as well as world conditions between the old generation and the younger generation.

"Efforts to fulfill current needs must be carried out without sacrificing the ability of future generations to meet their basic needs for participation in responding to global challenges," he said.

In addition, the 9th Mikta Speakers' Consultation will also discuss how changes in international relations, regional tensions, and the evolution of international norms that could affect global geopolitical dynamics.

"Factors such as security, economy, natural resources, and ideology play an important role in shaping this dynamic," explained Gilang.

The MIKTA parliamentary discussion forum this time will also discuss challenges that cause concern for the community and policymakers. One of them, according to Gilang, is related to artificial intelligence (AI).

"Currently, AI has become part of everyday life, and of course it will have a big role in the future. But technological advances also have a negative impact that must be anticipated together," said the legislator from the Central Java II electoral district.

Gilang added that the Indonesian-led MIKTA parliament forum will also discuss how the world can accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target or Sustainable Development Goals.

In the SDGs, there are 17 targets that become world agendas in development for peace and prosperity of people and the earth in the present and future.

"By utilizing creative and innovative collaboration, this forum is expected to be able to overcome regional and global challenges. We hope that the holding of the Mikta Speakers Consultation in Jakarta can also play a role in achieving the SDGs target for the future of the world's people," concluded Gilang.
