JAKARTA - The Israeli military confirmed its warning to the militant group Hezbollah and expressed the high readiness of its members, as tensions on the Lebanese border escalated and cross-border attacks hurt civilians.

Israel's chief military spokesman, Rear Admiral Daniel Badhi described Hezbollah as a "Hamas defender", referring to the group that carried out attacks on the country's southern region on October 7 and sparked war in Gaza.

On Sunday, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for a missile attack that Israel said injured at least two electric company workers, who were sent to make repairs in the border community. The Israeli military said the mortar attack injured seven of its troops.

In response, the Israeli military air force and artillery attacked Hezbollah and other targets in Lebanon, saying it considered the group and the Beirut government responsible for the tension.

"IDF (military) is focused on Gaza, but we are at a very high level of readiness in the northern region," Laksda kazi said.

"Lebanese will suffer the consequences of this carelessness and Hezbollah's decision to become a defender of Hamas," he continued.

"IDF has an operational plan to change the security situation in the northern region. The security situation will not continue, where residents of the northern region do not feel safe to return to their homes," he said.

Hezbollah is known to have carried out a limited attack on Israel, as a form of solidarity with Palestine. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasollah on Saturday described Israel's front as "active".

However, with at least 70 members of the group and Lebanese civilians killed in Israel's retaliatory attack, Hezbollah stepped up its attack using a 300-500 kilogram warhead rocket and a kamikaze drone.

Separately, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he had asked Iran, which supports Hamas and Hezbollah, to intervene and inform against creating new conflicts.
