2 Mechanics Died In Accident At The National Championship Drag Bike Mamuju, West Sulawesi

MAMUJU - Two participants of the National Championship (Kejurnas) Drag Bike Regional 6 Sulawesi had an accident and died at the Arterial circuit, Mamuju, West Sulawesi (Sulbar) on Saturday.

The two victims were Nawir (29), a mechanical officer from Campalagian District, Polewali Mandar Regency, and Sahabuddin (28), a mechanics from Mamuju Regency.

A tragic accident occurred at around 13.00 WITA when the two mechanics carried out a test drive on the circuit. Unfortunately, the two vehicles that were speeding collided, causing Nawir to die at the scene, while Sahabuddin died at Bhayangkara Mamuju Hospital.

As a result of this accident, the National Championship Drag Bike, which was attended by hundreds of participants, was temporarily suspended.

The chairman of the Drag Bike Committee for Regional 5 and 6 Sulawesi National Championships, Multazam, explained that this accident occurred outside the circuit, not inside. He also revealed that the previous committee had reminded participants not to do test drives or practice at the accident site.

"Actually, this happened outside the racing arena, so racers tested their vehicles in front of the area. We have banned them. Starting yesterday, we emphasized to them that racing is prohibited in the paddock area because it can endanger other people," he said.

Multazam stated that they had given an appeal through loudspeakers and to the committee so that participants would not conduct training sessions or test drives at that location. His party has carried out these activities according to applicable procedures, it's just that this accident is outside the committee's supervision.

"We have implemented all procedures in this circuit. This is purely the victim's fault," he explained.
