JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) said the process of extinguishing forests and land (karhutla) in Jungkal Village, Pampangan District, South Sumatra, Olhe Manggala Agni had lasted two months.
A number of challenges ranging from peatlands with a depth of more than three meters, peat conditions that are drier due to long dryness, abundant fuel, smog that limits visibility, wind and limited water sources are obstacles in extinguishing.
Head of the KLHK Climate Change Control Center for the Sumatra Region, Ferdian Krisnanto, said officers also needed to adjust the time to extinguish the fire according to the wind.
The blackout operation was carried out in the morning before 10 p.m. and in the afternoon, because the wind conditions were more conducive than during the day.
"The strategy implemented since the beginning of the blackout operation was to impose Manggala Agni personnel staying near the forest and land fires location," he said in a statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Thursday, November 2.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry stated that the location of the forest and land fires in Jungkal Village was a connection or bridge of the fire in Cinta Jaya Village, Pedamaran District, which had previously been extinguished for one month.
The location is an area that is divided into several forest and land fire points.
"The forest and land fires location is located in the PT Waringin Agri Jaya area, which is now bankrupt," said Ferdian.
Director of Forest and Land Fire Control of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Thomas Nifinduri, advised Manggala Agni to maintain health, maintain cohesiveness, and strengthen empathy among fellow teams.
