Spanish Minister Belarra: Don't Involve Us In Genocide In Gaza

LONDON - Acting Spanish Minister of Social Rights Ione Belarra on Saturday (28/10) issued a passionate call to European Union countries, inviting them to respond to the escalation of attacks by Israel in northern Gaza and other regions.

"After this terrible night in Gaza, I have a very simple but very important message for European leaders. Don't get us involved in genocide. Act. Not on our behalf," he said in a video message on X (twitter).

Highlighting the severity of the situation, Belarra stressed that Israel had cut off all communication channels in the Gaza Strip, suspected that this was a deliberate attempt to cover up the atrocities committed.

Belarra further underlined that many Europeans were deeply concerned about the situation and asked: "is no one going to do anything about what is happening in Gaza?"

Reporting from Antara, Belarra put forward several concrete steps that he said should be taken by European countries.

He called for the termination of diplomatic relations with Israel, imposed economic sanctions as a precaution against those responsible for ongoing violence, and supported Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's prosecution at the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes against humanity.

Israeli troops on Friday expanded their air and ground attacks in the Gaza Strip, which have been in non-stop airstrikes since a sudden attack by Hamas on October 7.

International aid agencies say they lost contact with staff in Gaza after Israel cut internet and communications networks.

At least 7,703 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes, 70 percent of whom were killed were women and children, according to official figures. The death toll on the part of Israel was no more than 1,400.

The 2.3 million population of Gaza is currently grappling with food, water, and medicines running low due to Israeli massive bombings and a total blockade in the bag area.

The UN General Assembly has called for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, with 120 countries voting for a resolution raised by Jordan. However, Israel rejected it.
