Waiting For Komnas HAM Investigation Results, Tracing Ustaz Maaher's Death At The Police Detention Center

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) will step in to find out the cause of the death of Soni Eranata alias Ustaz Maaher At Thuwailibi at the Police Criminal Investigation Prison. Because, confusion arises regarding this matter.

Komnas HAM commissioner Choirul Anam said he would ask the police for information regarding the death of Ustaz Maaher At-Thuwailibi.

"We will ask the police for information regarding the cause of death (Maaher, red)," said Choirul, Tuesday, February 9.

The series of inquiries, said Choirul, will be carried out in the near future. However, it was not certain when it would take place.

What is clear is that the death of a detainee in a detention center as experienced by Maaher is a concern for Komnas HAM. This is to ensure that there are human rights violations behind it.

"The death of a detainee needs in-depth information. Even though the police have said he died sick, it is important to know what kind of pain he was and how the pain took place in the prison and until he died," he said.

Confusion of information about the cause of the death of Maaher At Thuwailibi was that he was tortured at the Police detention center and suffered from severe skin pain. Maaher was then rushed to the National Police Hospital but was sent back to the detention house even though his condition had not yet recovered.

Even so, the Police have denied this. In fact, repeatedly emphasized that Maaher At Thuwailibi died due to illness.

Until finally, the Police said that Maaher's illness had been known by the family for a long time.

"What is of note from us is that the illness suffered by Soni Eranata's family is known to the family," said Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono.

"Namely, with a statement letter from the family that the family knew about the illness suffered by Soni Eranata's brother. In a statement signed by the deceased's wife," he continued.

With a statement letter from the family, said Rusdi, he could dismiss all the issues that had developed regarding the cause of Maaher's death.

Recently, wild issues have emerged, including allegations of torture as the cause of Maaher's death.

"Of course, this clarity eliminates the confusion of the cause of the death of Soni Eranata's brother," he said.

However, the National Police still did not explain Maaher At Thuwailibi's illness.

Indeed, on the previous occasion the National Police had emphasized that they would not reveal the illness suffered by the hate speech suspect. The reason is because it can damage the good name of Maaher At Thuwailibi.

For information, Maaher At Thuwailibi alias Soni Ernata reportedly died in the Police Criminal Investigation cell. He died at 19.00 WIB.

The cause of Maher's death is thought to be due to a disease in his intestines. He died after previously undergoing treatment due to illness.
