BMKG Warns People To Beware Of Floods Due To Heavy Rain In North Sumatra

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the public to be aware of the intensity of higher rain and floods, the impact of heavy rains that flushed parts of North Sumatra.

Forecaster for BBMKG Region 1 Medan Budi Prasetyo, Saturday said, BMKG appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for rain with moderate to heavy intensity which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in parts of North Sumatra.

"The mountainous region, West Slope and the West Coast of North Sumatra have the potential to rain with moderate to heavy intensity in the next few days. This condition must be watched out for because it has the potential to cause hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides," he said.

In general, the weather in North Sumatra in the next two days in the morning has the potential to rain with light intensity in the Nias Islands, Langkat, Medan, Serdang Bedagai, and surrounding areas.

Afternoon and evening also have the potential to rain with moderate intensity in the areas of the Nias Islands, Simalungun, North Labuhanbatu, South Labuhanbatu, Labuhan Batu, Asahan, Pakpak Bharat and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, the potential for heavy rain can occur in the areas of Mandailing Natal, Central Tapanuli, South Sibolga Tapanuli, North Tapanuli, Humbang Hasundutan, Padang Lawas, North Padang Lawas, Samosir Toba and its surroundings.
