JAKARTA - The Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) continues to massively disseminate information to the public to prevent the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) against Indonesian migrant workers.

Head of BP2MI Benny Rhamdani said the syndicate of illegal placement of migrant workers still overshadows the Indonesian people, especially in the West Java region.

"There are still people behind this dirty business syndicate, plus a lack of public insight and knowledge about official government-run procedures," said Benny during the Socialization of TIP Prevention of Indonesian Migrant Workers in Margahayu Kopo, Bandung Regency, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, October 21.

In the socialization, Benny said the opportunity to work abroad was still wide open when compared to job opportunities in the country. However, it must be watched out for the snares of the TIP syndicate which will later harm migrant workers.

"Hopefully the public will not only have the awareness to work abroad, but also awareness to protect themselves, their friends, and relatives so as not to become victims of illegal placements or victims of trafficking in persons. That is no less important," he said.

He explained that in Bandung Regency, West Java there were 1,114 Indonesian migrant workers who officially departed to work abroad. However, in fact there are threefold people who work abroad illegally or without following government procedures.

"Many people are backing up this dirty business because it is very tempting. Because the money is big. It's a dirty business, a haram business that has a large circulation of money," he said.

Benny hopes that intensively conducting socialization about TIP prevention to the public can prevent the illegal placement of Indonesian migrant workers abroad.

He said BP2MI also continues to strive to increase cooperation and collaborate with various parties to prepare Indonesian migrant workers who are ready to work until the process of placing them abroad.

In addition, he said, BP2MI also continues to provide various facilities for Indonesian migrant workers, including the immigration fast track for smooth return and departure services for PMI, to PMI lounge facilities that will depart or come from abroad.
