Chronology Of Argo Semeru Train Accident, 31 People Become Victims

The KULON PROGO - A train accident occurred in the Kalimenur area, Kapanewon Sentolo, Kulon Progo Regency, involving two trains, namely Argo Semeru train and Argo Wilis train, on Tuesday, October 17.

The accident occurred due to the drop in the Argo Semeru Train heading for Surabaya-Jakarta, which then coincided with the Argowilis Train to Bandung-Surabaya.

The chronology of the incident began when at 13.20 WIB, residents heard the sound of a train about to pass. Moments later, they heard loud noises and saw Argo Semeru's train slip from the railroad tracks, so the carriage came off the tracks.

At 13.23 WIB, the Argowilis train from the west was about to pass, considering the very close distance, the train accident was inevitable. Argo Semeru, who previously slipped with 472 passengers, ate a railroad line from the Argowilis Train carrying 288 passengers.

The Yogyakarta Regional Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Suwondo Nainggolan, who inspected the location, gave directions to all stakeholders on standby at the Kalimenur Station post to confirm the data on train passengers. The Regional Police Chief ordered that an immediate evacuation of the train that had an accident be carried out, so that the current return to normal immediately.

The National Police and KAI will immediately investigate the real cause of the accident to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Also make sure whether there are victims outside the passengers or not, and always place members to secure the location. People's safety is always prioritized," said Yogyakarta Police Chief Inspector General Suwondo Nainggolan in his statement.

In this incident, passengers were evacuated using the airport train to Wates Station, namely at 15.00 WIB and 16.00 WIB. Currently, the evacuation of two trains is still being carried out with the help of equipment from PT KAI.

Meanwhile, Kulon Progo Police Chief AKBP Nunuk Setiyowati said that the number of victims of this accident reached 31 people, with 28 people suffering minor injuries receiving treatment at the scene, while 3 people were referred to Queen Latifah Hospital, namely 1 person was hospitalized and 2 people were allowed to go home.
