JAKARTA - BUMD Perumda PAM Jaya has begun to build a water treatment plant (IPA) in Pejaten Timur Village, South Jakarta. DKI Jakarta Regional Secretary Marullah targets the construction of the Ciliwung IPA to be completed in May 2026.

According to Marullah, the Ciliwung IPA was built to increase the coverage of 100 percent of piped clean water services by 2030.

"Our target is completed within 18 months to meet the needs of five urban villages, such as Pejaten Timur, Pengadegan, Kalimantan, Rawajati, Duren Tiga," Marullah said in the kick off of the Ciliwung IPA development, Monday, November 25.

IPA Ciliwung was built on an area of 2,000 m2 with a capacity of 200 liters per second to serve 15,000 families or around 90 thousand people. Marullah hopes that this project is expected to run according to the target and be of great benefit to local residents.

"The construction of the Ciliwung IPA is not only infrastructure, but also a symbol of commitment to providing quality basic services," said Marullah.

"Clean water is the basic right of every citizen, and the government is responsible for ensuring that these rights are fulfilled, both as a support for daily life and a sustainable health support," he added.

On the one hand, Marullah emphasized that his staff, including BUMD, need to provide education to increase residents' awareness of the use of piped clean water and ensure the use of this facility to run optimally.

"The success of physical development alone is not enough. I want to emphasize the importance of transforming people's behavior to move from using groundwater to utilizing piped clean water which is more guaranteed in quality. This step not only supports environmental sustainability, but also provides long-term health benefits for all residents," explained Marullah.

Meanwhile, PAM Jaya President Director Arief Nasrudin invited the public to use water wisely for the sustainability of life on earth.

"Water is a basic need that cannot be needed. So, as much as possible to protect the earth, protect the environment, use water wisely," added Arief.
