JAKARTA - The Traffic Corps of National Police (Korlantas Polri) will hold random antigen swab tests in toll rest areas on Java Island as an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 during the long Chinese New Year holidays.

"With a random check, then the private one (vehicle), we can carry out the test randomly," said the Head of Traffic Corps of National Police, Inspector General Istiono as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, February 9.

The Traffic Corps has checked the implementation of health protocols in enforcing restrictions on micro-community activities (PPKM) at several departure locations for travelers, namely Pulo Gebang Terminal, East Jakarta and Gambir Station, Central Jakarta as preparation for securing the Chinese New Year holiday.

PPKM Mikro is valid from February 9 to February 22, 2021.

"Some of the modes of transportation that we reviewed earlier have their maximum readiness and are good," he said.

Inspector General Istiono said he was satisfied with the implementation of the health protocol at Pulo Gebang Terminal. According to him, the implementation of the health protocol at the terminal went well thanks to the GeNose C19 test.

Then at Gambir Station, his party also appreciates the strict requirements for antigen swab for people who want to travel by train.

"The requirement is to use antigen swabs, then they can go home to their destination," he said.

He predicts that the peak flow of homecoming on the weekend holiday which coincides with the Chinese New Year will fall on Thursday, February 11, with the majority of homecoming destinations being Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

"If we look at the queue for tickets, it will peak on Thursday for Yogya and Solo," said the former Bangka Belitung Police Chief.

Inspector General Istiono ensured that the National Police's Traffic Corps personnel were ready to maintain the flow of traffic on the homecoming route so that people who took advantage of the Chinese New Year holidays by returning hometown could go smoothly, safely, and comfortably.

"We appoint personnel, the posts are filled with ranks, both on toll roads and arteries. In these posts we mobilize all (to maintain the homecoming and return flow) of this Lunar New Year, especially in tourist attractions and shopping centers," he said.
