BPBD: 9,607 Meter Eiran On Mount Lawu Prevents Forest And Land Fires To Settlements

The 9,607-meter-long Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of East Java Province or the blocking limit has been built to prevent forest and land fires (karhutla) on Mount Lawu from reaching residential areas.

"Currently, there is an explanation so that it does not reach residential areas, it has reached 9,607 meters of alignment," said Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of BPBD East Java Province, Satrio Nurseno, Wednesday, October 11.

Currently, the blackout of forest and land fires in Mount Lawu is still being pursued by air and land. The area of forest and land fires on Mount Lawu as of October 10, 2023 was recorded at 2,041 hectares.

"In general, the conditions in Lawu are still found to be hotspots and are still being tried to extinguish the fire either by air or by land," he said.

He said there were several obstacles in efforts to extinguish forest and land fires, such as hotspots on steep slopes to strong winds that affected the stability of helicopters that carried out extinguishing efforts through the "water bombing" method or water bomb avalanches.

"In general, there are many obstacles with cliffs and ravines so that they can endanger friends in the field, other obstacles wind so that it affects helicopters to stabilize above," he explained.

Previously, KPH Lawu Administratur Ds Agus Ahmad Fadholi said that until the 11th day, efforts to extinguish forest and land fires in Gunung Lawu were still being carried out in three areas even though they had decreased a lot. The three areas are Magetan, Ngawi, and Karanganyar Regencies, Central Java.

To extinguish land efforts, another search was carried out in the alignment routes that have been made by around 150 joint personnel. Where if hotspots are found, they can be extinguished. In addition, the outage by air with "water bombing" is also still carried out alternately in the three areas.

Meanwhile, Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa stated that the East Java Provincial Government conducted an assessment of the "recovery" or plant recovery in Gunung Lawu after forest and land fires (karhutla) occurred in the local area.

"In the future, efforts after the Gunung Lawu forest and land fires are resolved will be carried out which may be carried out by "aeroseeding". However, the East Java Provincial Government will conduct an assessment first," said Governor Khofifah while reviewing the Gunung Lawu Forest and Land Fire Emergency Response Command Post (Karhutla) at the Ngiliran Village Office, Panekan District, Magetan Regency, East Java, Tuesday (10/10).
