JAYAPURA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin called for the Palestinian-Israeli war, which is now raging, to be stopped immediately and restore the peace process to the discussion of solutions for the two countries (two states solution).
"We also try for both parties (Palestinian-Israel) to stop their fighting and return to a peaceful settlement and return to the completion of the two state solution," Ma'ruf Amin said at a working visit press conference at the Papua Governor's Office, Jayapura, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, October 10.
On that occasion Ma'ruf also mentioned the progress of the evacuation of 230 Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were traveling religiously in Israel when the Palestinian militia, Hamas, attacked the southern Zionist nation.
"I think the government has prepared (security) and the Indonesian Embassy has done it. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has prepared us to protect and evacuate the people there," he said.
Ma'ruf added that Indonesia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had taken a stand as an intermediary to reconcile the two countries.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reconciled and stopped fighting, apart from evacuating our citizens who were there," he said.
The Hamas group launched a surprise attack on Saturday (7/10) against Israel by launching rockets and infiltrating dozens of fighters into Israeli cities near the Gaza Strip.
The attack from Hamas killed about 700 Israelis and kidnapped dozens of people in the deadliest attack since the Yom Kippur war 50 years ago.
Israel responded to the attack with the biggest bombing ever in Gaza, which killed more than 400 residents and injured thousands more.
