Around Bandung Preventing Young Golput, Kaesang Denies PSI's Promotion Again

JAKARTA - PSI DPP Chairman Kaesang Pangarep toured a number of areas in Bandung on Sunday 8 October. President Jokowi's youngest son invited young voters to use their votes during the 2024 election, aka not abstaining.

In this series of political safaris, Kaesang attended the 'Kongkow Millennial' event with the Indonesian Millennial Generation Movement (GGMI) at GOR Arcamanik, Bandung City. Kaesang was also present at the 'Ngobrol Politik (Ngopi) with the Advanced Indonesian Millennials at the Sabilulangan Cultural Building, Soreang, Bandung Regency.

At the two events, Kaesang had a dialogue with students from campuses in Bandung, including UIN Gunung Djati, Muhammadiyah University, Bandung. During the event, Kaesang invited them to exercise their constitutional rights by choosing a presidential and vice presidential candidate pair and selecting legislative candidates on February 14, 2024.

"This is how to prevent (young people) from becoming objects, but being the subject (in politics), yes, voting on February 14, 2024. Nyoblos is one of the simple ones," said Kaesang in response to a question from one of the students during a dialogue at the Sabilulangan Cultural Building.

Kaesang, in front of students and young people in Bandung, continued many ways that young people could take in making changes. Not only using their rights in elections, they can also join political parties.

On the one hand, Kaesang also denied that his political safari in Bandung was part of the promotion of the party he had just led.

"No, I'm not promoting PSI. We have a lot of parties. Parties in Indonesia have PDIP, PKS, Gerindra, NasDem, Golkar, basically all of them, just enter one of them so that young people can become political people, not just become objects, for example being candidates (candidates for legislative members) or whatever in the future can make regulations that support young people. The important thing is to vote first, "said Kaesang.

After the event, both at GOR Arcamanik and the Sabilulangan Cultural Building, Kaesang explained that the invitation made him a political lesson, because he understood that there were still many young voters who were antipathy towards politicians and political parties.

"Let all my friends here, millennials, Gen Z, no one is antipathy to politics. I heard that someone is antipathy, but he wants to change something so he can't (if not through politics, ed.)," he said.

Kaesang and his entourage, including PSI Secretary General Raja Juli Antoni and two members of the PSI Board of Trustees, namely Isyana Bagoes Oka and Giring Ganesha, have been traveling around West Java since Saturday.

He began his journey to meet the community and cadres from the city of Bandung on Saturdays and Sundays, then continued to Garut on Sunday night until Monday 9 October. Finally, Kaesang is scheduled to visit Tasikmalaya on Monday 9 October afternoon.
