Thousands Of Hectares Of Rice Fields In Serang Drought, 25 Hectares Successfully Harvested

SERANG - The Department of Food Security and Agriculture (DKPP) of Serang Regency recorded 1,564 hectares of drought fields, while 25 hectares of them were successfully harvested.

Head of DKPP Serang Regency Suhardjo said the total rice fields drought until September had reached 1,564 hectares.

This condition is divided into light categories of 667 hectares, moderate 247 hectares, weighing 224 hectares and puso 355 hectares.

"Of these, 98 hectares and 25 hectares of which were successfully harvested, namely in the areas of Carenang, Lebak Wangi, Cikeusal and Padarincang," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, October 7.

Suhardjo explained that it was successfully restored because there was a water source that had to be pumped to flow to the rice fields.

"Because it was lent a pumped to irrigate the rice fields," he said.

Regarding areas experiencing drought to date spread across 24 sub-districts, some of them are in Jawilan, Cikande, Ciruas, Padarincang, Pamarayan, Cikeusal, Tirtayasa, Tanara, Pontang, Cinangka, Binuang, Tunjungteja, and Mancak Districts.

"This drought occurs when the age of rice is 14 to 75 days after planting, this can be puso if it doesn't rain," he said.

Suhardjo said farmers who failed to harvest will have assistance. His party also asked farmers to have insurance so as not to lose money when a puso occurs.

"Some of them already have farmer insurance but some don't. That's why we hope that everyone has insurance so they don't lose money if it's puso," he said.
