JAKARTA - The East Kalimantan Regional Police released 6 members of the Balikpapan Police who were suspected of being involved in the case of the death of Herman (39) while handling the Balikpapan Police.

"Those who are relieved are AGS, RH, KKA, ASR, RSS, and GSR," said the Head of Propam Polda Kaltim, Kombes Yudi Arkara Oktobera, reported by Antara, Monday, February 8.

The event of Herman's death occurred on Thursday, December 3, 2020. The day before, Herman was brought by 3 unknown people from his house in Bilangan Muara Rapak, North Balikpapan.

Herman was then taken to the Balikpapan Police to be examined in the case of the theft of 2 cell phones. Visiting families are not allowed to meet.

As told by the family, Herman vomited and repeatedly defecated so that the officers were taken to Bhayangkara Hospital. However, Herman is helpless and dies.

When the body was returned, the family found several wounds on the deceased's body. However, it was only on February 5, 2021 that the family reported their case to the East Kalimantan Police Propam accompanied by a team of lawyers from the Samarinda Legal Aid Institute (LBH).

The East Kalimantan Regional Police Propam took action until finally the 6 names appeared. Of the 6 members of the Balikpapan Police, 1 is an officer and the rest are non-commissioned officers with the rank of adjunct inspector and brigadier.

Kombes Yudi continued, the six members of the Balikpapan Police were still undergoing investigation by the Police Propam. They are suspected of violating National Police Regulation No. 14/2011, Articles 7, 13, and 14 concerning Police Professionalism.

They face sanctions to be removed from office until dismissal with disrespect.

Regarding the possibility of a crime, Kombes Yudi emphasized that the case would be followed up by the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the East Kalimantan Regional Police.

Releasing is to facilitate the ethical and legal processes for suspected offenders who lead to the death of the prisoner.

Previously, the East Kalimantan Police Propam had examined 7 people as witnesses, including those who were finally released, namely officers at the Bhayangkara Hospital, and members of Herman's family.

"Earlier, the Police Chief had also conveyed that he would not tolerate disciplinary violations, code of ethics violations, and other violations of law by members of the National Police. So they will be taken firmly," said Head of Public Relations of the East Kalimantan Regional Police, Kombes Ade Yaya Suryana

"Remember, this is a commitment from the East Kalimantan Regional Police. Now they have been relieved and are undergoing investigations," said Kombes Ade Yaya.
