BMKG Forecasts Terik Hot Weather To Continue Until October 2023

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that hot weather phenomena in a number of parts of Indonesia can last until October 2023. "The condition of this hot hot phenomenon is predicted to still take place in this period of October," said Deputy for Meteorology of BMKG Guswanto in Jakarta, Saturday, September 30. He said that most of Indonesia's territory, especially those in the south of the equator, is still experiencing a dry season. Part of Indonesia, according to him, will enter the period of transition of the season during October to November 2023. Parts of the Indonesian region that entered the transition period during that period are mostly predicted to be weathered during the day. Guswanto stated that in the past week most of Indonesia's territory, especially Java to Nusa Tenggara, the weather and the growth of the cloud are asymmetric during the day. Such a condition, according to him, makes sunlight at noon directly up to the Earth's surface without significant barriers from clouds in the atmosphere so that the air temperature outside the room feels very hot. Guswantoensakan that at the end of September 2023 the apparent position of the sun shows movement towards the south of the equator. That is, parts of the territory of Indonesia that is in the south of the equator could be affected by solar screening more intense impacts than other regions in the morning before noon and during the day. "However, this astronomical phenomenon does not stand alone in resulting in a drastic or extreme increase in air temperature on the Earth's surface," said Guswanto. He said, another factor such as wind speed, cloud closure, and humidity levels of air also have a major impact on the temperature in a region.

Based on the results of BMKG observations, he explained, during the period from 22 to 29 September 2023, the maximum temperature measurable in several parts of Indonesia at noon was quite high, around 35 to 38 degrees Celsius. "The highest maximum temperature during that period reached 38 degrees Celsius, which was measurable at the Semarang Climatology Station Office, Central Java, on September 25 and 29, 2023, as well as at the Kertajati Meteorological Station, Majalengka, West Java, on September 28, 2023," he explained. According to him, the maximum temperature measurable in the areas of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, is in the range of 35 to 37.5 degrees Celsius. The maximum measurable temperature reaches 37.5 degrees Celsius in the South Tangerang region on September 29, 2023. "BMKG urges the public to always maintain the condition of body's stamina and fluid adequacy, especially for residents who are outdoor activities during the day, so that there is no dehydration, fatigue, and other bad impacts," said Guswanto.
