Jokowi Issues Presidential Decree On Strengthening Religious Moderation

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) issued Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpres) Number 58 of 2023 concerning Strengthening Religious Moderation. This Presidential Regulation was signed by Jokowi as of September 25, 2023. In Presidential Decree 58/2023, it was stated that religious diversity and belief are a gift of God to the Indonesian nation which underlies the behavior of citizens and countries that occupy important and strategic positions in the life of the nation and state in Indonesia based on the One Supreme Godhead.," This Presidential Regulation is intended as a guide for the central government, local government, and religious community in order to strengthen religious moderation, "wrote Article 2 of Presidential Regulation 58/2023, quoted on Friday, September 29. Article 3 states, strengthening religious moderation is carried out to strengthen perspectives, attitudes, and religious practices moderately to strengthen brotherhood and togetherness among religious communities.

Strengthening the harmony and harmony of religious communities; alignment of relations in religious and cultured ways; improving the quality of service for religious life; as well as economic development of the people and religious resources.

"Strengthening religious moderation is organized by the central government and local governments in a planned, systematic, coordinative, collaborative, and sustainable manner," wrote the Presidential Decree. The implementation of strengthening religious moderation is based on general guidelines for strengthening religious moderation, which consists of religious moderation indicators; the essence of religious moderation; ecosystems and strategic groups of religious moderation; policy direction and strategy for strengthening religious moderation; and programs to strengthen religious moderation.
