JAKARTA - The West Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) team paralyzed a tiger from two tigers that had escaped from Sinka Zoo, Singkawang due to heavy rains which caused landslides in the area where the wild animals cages were on Friday, February 5.
"Our team has gone to the field to catch the tiger. The team we sent down is equipped with anesthetic weapons and is supported by the National Army and The Police Force", Head of the West Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Center, Sadtata Noor Adirahmanta in Singkawang, reported by Antara, Saturday, February 6.
Sadtata explained that the process of paralyzing the animals had to be carried out by shooting live bullets because when they were shot with anesthetic, they did not affect the tiger.
"It was forced to be paralyzed with live bullets because when the tiger was about to be paralyzed, the tiger would attack the officers and it was feared that it would endanger the lives of officers and the citizens, considering that the hunter's instinct had returned", he said.
He explained, in dealing with the loose tigers, his party would do everything possible to strive for the safety of both tigers and members who are on duty and the citizens.
"However, we still prioritize the citizens which is number one and now it is still not finished. One has been paralyzed, there is only one tiger left", he said.
He said another tiger that had not been caught was still in the vicinity of the Sinka Zoo, so his party was still searching.
"Our team is still on standby in the field to wait and find its whereabouts. Hopefully, the animals can still be saved", he said.
As previously reported, Elka Surya as the administrator of Sinka Zoo Singkawang gave information about the release of two tigers at the zoo.
According to Elka, the two tigers were loose due to natural factors. Heavy rain that flushed for several days caused landslides in the Sinka Zoo area of Singkawang.
"The rain that has flushed for the last few days has caused landslides near the tiger enclosure. The landslide eventually caused a big hole in the tiger cage and finally, two tigers fled", said Elka.
According to him, the tamer had tried to prevent it, but the tiger attacked and killed the tamer.
"Currently, we have been assisted by the police and the National Army in the field. Hopefully, the two tigers can be caught", said Elka.
He added that the escaped tigers are still being monitored and are still in the Sinka Zoo area of Singkawang.
