JAKARTA - The Supreme Court cut the penalty for replacement money for the defendant in the alleged corruption case of oil palm plantations without a permit in Riau Province for the 2004-2022 period, Surya Darmadi from IDR 42 trillion to IDR 2 trillion. This was stated in the Supreme Court's Cassation Decision which was knocked on September 14, 2023. "Perbaikan pidana menjadi pidana penjara 16 tahun dan denda Rp1 miliar subsider 6 bulan kurungan. Uang pengganti Rp2,238.274.248.234.00 subsider 5 tahun penjara," demikian bunyi putusan yang dilansir dari laman resmi Mahkamah Agung, Antara, Rabu, 20 September. However, there has been no explanation from the Supreme Court regarding the basis for considering the cassation decision. The Attorney General's Office then stated that it would first study the cassation decision. Previously, the DKI Jakarta High Court (PT) upheld the verdict handed down by the judges of the Central Jakarta District Court (PN Jakpus) against the owner of PT Darmex Group Surya Darmadi for 15 years in prison and paid compensation of around Rp42 trillion. The replacement money consists of state losses of IDR 2.2 trillion and state economic losses of IDR 39.7 trillion.

Surya Darmadi was found guilty of committing an unlawful act and causing state financial losses and the country's economy. The boss of PT Darmex Group was found guilty of committing a money laundering crime (TPPU).
