Village Head In Bekasi Enters Hospital Hit By Legislative Billboards

BEKASI - A village head in the Bekasi Regency, West Java underwent intensive treatment until he was admitted to the hospital due to being hit by an outdoor media in the form of a billboard of a legislative candidate.

A large billboard with a picture of a candidate for Wardatul Asriah immediately collapsed and hit the village head of Sindangjaya, Branchbungin District named Ruslan, who happened to be passing by riding a motorbike on Jalan Raya Cabangbungin.

"The chronology of the incident, the victim was about to go home after the alert. Arriving at the location, the campaign props fell. The victim was rushed to the hospital due to serious injuries to the head and forehead. Yesterday's incident but to this day the victim is still being treated at the Cabangbungin Hospital," said Deputy Head of Branch Bungin Police, Iptu Agus Salim, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 18.

AgusSalim said this incident was a lesson for all related parties, especially political parties, to orderly install attributes and outdoor media in the form of campaign props or socialization so that similar incidents do not happen again.

After holding a coordination meeting with Muspika elements, Cabangbungin District and local sub-district-level election organizers, his party plans to coordinate further with political parties participating in the 2024 General Election.

"We ask that this political party curb the attributes of banners and billboards as well as other types that are similar to campaign props whose placement is inappropriate and threatens the safety of road users," he said.

Chairman of the Branchbungin Sub-district Election Supervisory Committee Andi Heryana said the campaign stages had not yet started so that legislative and political candidates had not been allowed to install campaign props.

"However, the KPU provides opportunities for candidates to carry out socialization, but of course the socialization demonstration tools that are installed should not interfere with public facilities, let alone endanger residents," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Peace and Order Section of the Branchbungin District, Daos Hidayat, stated that referring to Regional Regulation Number 4 of 2012 concerning Public Order, the installation of banners and billboards must follow the existing provisions.

"We are no longer talking about the attributes of political parties but all the banners and billboards containing the advertisements must follow the existing rules. So later we will coordinate with all the leaders of PAC political parties in our area to jointly discipline them," he said.
