According to Mahfud, the 2024 election stage could be disrupted if the registration schedule for presidential and vice presidential candidates is not advanced. Mahfud said, the discourse on registering for presidential and vice-presidential candidates must be submitted to 10-16 October 2023 because the terms of the campaign period that must be completed three days before voting can be achieved. Previously, the KPU planned to accelerate the schedule for registering for presidential and vice presidential candidates for the 2024 election, which was originally scheduled for October 19-25, 2023 to 10-16 October 2023. KPU commissioner Idham Holik said that the change in the registration period of the presidential and vice presidential candidates was due to accordance with Law Number 7 of 2023 concerning Elections or Election Law. Idham explains Article 276 paragraph (1) of the Election Law regulates the campaign period to be carried out on 15 days after the candidate pairs and candidate candidates for election participants were determined.

On the other hand, PKPU Number 3 of 2022 concerning Stages and Schedules for the 2024 General Election is regulated that the campaign period starts on November 28, 2023. Thus, if calculated, there are 15 days before November 28, 2023 falls on November 13, 2023. However, before setting a presidential-vice presidential candidate pair, the KPU must carry out a series of stages, ranging from candidate registration, verification, administrative improvement, to presidential-cawapres health checks. To accommodate the stage process, the KPU plans to advance the registration period to 10-16 October 2023.
