BONE BOLANGO - A joint team from several government agencies investigated the cause of death of a number of wildlife in the Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park (TNBNW) area, which is located in the Provinces of Gorontalo and North Sulawesi.

A team of officers from the TNBNW Center, the Bone Bolango Regency Food and Agriculture Security Service, and the Gorontalo Province Veterinary Authority have been dispatched to check and take samples at the location where wild boar carcass was found.

Head of the TNBNW Center Anis Suratin said that information regarding the death of wild animals in the national park area and its surroundings had been received since August 29, 2023.

"Until now, there have been findings of nine carcasses of forest boars of the type of Sus Celebnesis in nine locations inside and outside the TNBNW area," said Anis, Monday, September 11.

Wild boar carcasses were reportedly found in six locations outside the national park area and three locations within the national park area.

The location of the discovery of wild boar carcasses is in the areas of Bangio Village and Green Plain in Pinogu District and Tulabolo Village in East Suwawa District in Bone Bolango Regency, Gorontalo Province.

Anis said that officers had taken samples from two wild boar carcasses found in the national park area and its surroundings to be examined at the Maros Veterinary Center.

He revealed that the coordination meeting on September 5, 2023 regarding the prevention and handling of African Swine Fever (ASF), among others, concluded that infectious diseases in pigs did not cause mass animal deaths and did not cause wildlife deaths in conservation areas.

However, according to him, laboratory tests are still being carried out to find out the possibility of virus transmission in wildlife in conservation areas.
