Dozens Of Thousands Of People Affected By Clean Water Crisis

SUKABUMI - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sukabumi City noted that from August-September 2023 the number of residents of Sukabumi City, West Java who were affected by the clean water crisis reached tens of thousands of people.

"Temporary data that came into us were 13,975 people who were affected by the clean water crisis. They were spread across six sub-districts," said Head of the Sukabumi City BPBD Prevention and Preparedness Section Zulkarnain Barhami as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, September 7.

According to Zulkarnain, the tens of thousands of people came from 3,966 families. Residents affected by the clean water crisis are spread across Warudoyong, Cikole, Cibeureum, Baros, Lembursitu and Gunungpuyuh sub-districts. Thus, only one sub-district has not yet been affected by the clean water crisis, namely Citamiang District.

To overcome this problem, his party intensified the distribution of clean water to 33 affected locations with 122,480 liters of water already distributed. Clean water distribution is routinely carried out every day, which is also assisted by other institutions such as the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Sukabumi City and Sukabumi City Police.

As for the details of the number of beneficiaries of clean water distribution services for Gunungpuyuh District as many as 224 families or 1,120 people with a total of 5 thousand liters of clean water distributed.

Then Warudongong District there are 441 families or 1,452 people with a total of 20 thousand liters of water distributed, Lemburs District there are 1,283 families or 4/283 people with 42,480 liters of water distributed.

Furthermore, Cikole District has 385 families or 1,680 people with 20 thousand liters of water distributed, Cibeureum District has 656 families or 1,800 people with 8 thousand liters of water distributed and Baros District there are 897 families or 3,400 people with 22 thousand liters of water distributed.

The areas most severely affected by the long dry season, causing the clean water crisis, are Lemburs District, where there are 13 points experiencing a clean water crisis spread across four urban villages.

"We will continue to provide clean water distribution services because until now there are still many reports from residents who ask for clean water to be distributed to their area," he added.

Zulkarnain said that if the dry season continues for a long time, it is possible that the area experiencing the clean water crisis will expand. Therefore, he appealed to residents to save on water use and if they needed supplies they could contact his party.
